Economic Development & Vibrant Communities
A strong local economy creates opportunities for everyone. I want Coquitlam to be a city where businesses can thrive, residents can work and play close to home, and our neighbourhoods are vibrant, welcoming, and economically resilient.
• More vibrant, activated streets and attractive commercial areas that create welcoming places to gather, shop, dine, and connect. Ground floor retail and dining is key; more patios
• Continue supporting and evolving Coquitlam’s Economic Development Strategy to attract, retain, and grow local businesses. We must stay responsive to the micro and macro-economic climate and take action to help reduce barriers businesses may be facing - including cutting “red tape”.
• Support more restaurants, entertainment, and social spaces so residents can enjoy great experiences close to home.

• Promote employment opportunities by encouraging office space development and jobs near SkyTrain stations and throughout the city.
• Ensure new neighbourhoods, including Burke Mountain Village, offer a diverse mix of commercial services and amenities.

• Preserve and intensify industrial lands that provide important jobs and economic opportunities; look for prospects to create business parks
• Promote Coquitlam as a destination for tournaments, festivals, film production, and major events.
• Support new hotels and visitor amenities that contribute to our local economy.
