I believe all British Columbians have a right to live in safe, secure housing. Our province is undersupplied – we simply don’t have enough homes to accommodate the population growth. I believe every city must do its part to accommodate the growth and that it must be done thoughtfully, purposefully and by using proven community planning principles.

I support building complete communities where people of all ages and all stages of life can live, work, play, and stay connected close to home. And where grandchildren can stay living close to their grandparents.

• A diverse mix of housing choices helps ensure young adults, growing families, seniors, can all find a place in Coquitlam.

• Continue advocating for below-market and non-market housing as part of new developments as this type of housing provides critical, long-term and protected affordable housing. (there’s currently 1972 non-profit units and 1115 units in stream)

• Encourage more family-friendly homes by supporting larger units and thoughtful design standards that create functional living spaces. Coquitlam implemented policies around larger units and bedroom size

• Ensure new developments include inviting gathering spaces, green areas, and recreational amenities that foster connection and community. This enhances quality of life for residents and reduces pressure on existing facilities

• Recalibrate policies around storage, including secure bike storage, so they better reflect how residents actually live.

• Ensure parking requirements strike the right balance and reflect the needs of residents and neighbourhoods.

• Preserve the unique character and identity of Coquitlam’s neighbourhoods while planning thoughtfully for future growth.

• Continue building Coquitlam in a sustainable way and protect non-urban lands; limit sprawl by focusing growth where people already are and protect agricultural, conservation and recreational lands from urban development
