The rising cost of living continues to put pressure on individuals, families, seniors and businesses. While municipalities cannot control inflation or interest rates, we can make choices that help reduce everyday costs and improve quality of life. I will continue supporting practical initiatives that help make Coquitlam a more affordable place to live.

• Continue implementing and amending as needed, Coquitlam’s successful Housing Affordability Strategy. This strategy has successfully resulted in a wider range of housing options, offering more affordable choices

• Continue advocating for more purpose-built rental housing including below-market and non-market units. More affordable rental units are desperately needed in our region.

• Ensure the conditions exist to attract and support businesses offering good, well-paying jobs so more residents can live and work in the same community, also saving on transportation costs.

• Work with partners to expand access to quality, affordable childcare; support more camps and summer programs for school-aged kids

• Support innovative programs such as EquipSport that provides free access to sports equipment in our parks.

• Expand affordable and no-cost arts, recreation and community programming for residents of all ages and abilities, including free and low-cost drop-in options. Ensure all residents are aware of the Financial Assistance for Recreation program.

• Improve transportation options so more households can choose to own fewer vehicles: more buses, more car-share options, more bike racks/secure bike locking opportunities

• Continue responsible financial stewardship to keep property taxes as low as possible while protecting the services residents rely on and expect. Complete core service reviews and department efficiency assessments and continue to reduce utilization of outside consultants and contractors - all to keep service delivery costs as low as possible.
